Petro may rest assured that CIA operatives are everywhere. For this we can be thankful, for the following reasons.
1. They are the good guys. Sometimes they do bad things, but they still remain the good guys.
2. Without the CIA (and Jews) to investigate, what would petro do with his spare time?
3. Knowing that petro fears the CIA and the Jews are in themselves reasons to be thankful.

I know that the CIA dirty tricks department has been active in Latin America for decades - the now acknowledged involvement of this body in the overthrow of Allende being a disgraceful episode. Likewise southeast Asia. But Australia differs from these in an important way that you have not taken note of.
Australia has a formal military treaty with the United States and a history of being a supportive ally.
It makes a difference. To my knowledge, none of the states that the CIA has been active in over the years in a inimical way have been American allies. As far as I know their sole activity in Australia has been confined to spying on foreign embassies in Canberra - a case in point being the attempted bugging of the PRC Embassy during Bob Hawke's tenure in office - and they usually do that through their Australian sister organisation (as in the case above).
..............................................
Though Kevin Rudd may have grown cool towards the Afghanistan committment ( it never had majority public opinion support out here) nothing he ever did or said could have possibly caused the upset in Washington to the extent of New Zealand Prime Minister David Lange's enactment of the nuclear fueled and armed ships ban legislation in the mid-1980's. Because of that New Zealand's membership in the ANZUS military alliance was suspended and has been so ever since. Because of its popularity with the NZ public no NZ government since has dared rescind it - the price Washington demands for restoration of full membership in the alliance.
Worth noting here what the Americans did NOT do. They did NOT send out a hit team to assinate David Lange; they did not impose economic sanctions nor do anything else to harm New Zealand's best interests. They just denied the country the full benefits of being an American ally - which includes access to sensative intelligence information (including commercial intelligence) beyond the capability of NZ's own intelligence gathering agencies to collect.
New Zealand (like Australia and the US) as well as being technically an allied state is English speaking and therefore could be considered 'within the same family of nations'. Latin Americans and southeast Asians are still foreignors re. the Anglo Americans. I believe it makes a difference!

But I am sure that neither the above nor any other rational discussion of the facts will stop you guys believing whatever you want to.
Socialism is just like a religion and the CIA is Socialism's legion of devils.
Thank you for your eminently sensible comments.
To clarify my position regarding the discussion in this thread:
I make no claims about US involvement or non-involvement, by the CIA or others, in Australia or elsewhere. I do not take issue with Petro's assertions, except for one, that the specific article under discussion is "An excellent report on the CIA in Australia".
An important part of ATol's "mission" (if I may be so pretentious) is to nail misinformation, disinformation, propaganda, error, stupidity, or misrepresentation wherever it comes from, left, right or center. Petro's claim about this specific article falls into at least one of these categories. As ATol's representative on this forum, I therefore nailed it.
Note to the leftists among us: Be smart and subtle. The users of this forum are not susceptible to being led by the nose. Misrepresentation of facts, whether deliberate or not, does your cause more harm than good, just as the misrepresentations propagated by Fox News, Sarah Palin et al are disastrous for the conservative cause. (By the way, cranking up the volume and frequency of such misrepresentations is even more counterproductive.)

Southeast Asis is important.
The younger generation are unaware that over a million civilians were killed and injured in the 1960s and till mid-1970s due to the policies of the US government....badly informed by the CIA in ASIA.
Misinterpretation of geopolitical issue are rampant in the Anglo-American mainstream media today.
A good example: A North Korean submarine sank the South Korean naval vessel. THIS IS A BLATANT LIE.
I will repost some comments on Ralph's in-depth report on the CIA's activities in SouthEast Asia in the second half of the XX Century:
www.poetryconnection.net/Reviews/ItemId/0940380021#review4
Were Ralph's "CIA reports" accurate?

P.S. BTW, the CIA was responsible for the sacrifice of millions in SouthEast ASia in the 3rd. quarter of the XX Century (1950-1975). Ralph W. McGehee has done a great service on behalf of many decent Americans!

Well, there are many day-dreamers in Washington today, they indulge in pipe-dreams! Read what really happened in Florida in the year 2000 ! A decade later, Obama is feeling the back-lash of that stolen election....the U.S. is broke, with two big broblems unsolved....in Iraq and Afghanistan....thanks to the double B stooges.....BUSH & BLAIR.

According to petro, a North Korean sub did not sink that South Korean vessel. Must have been those CIA bastards, right, petro? And them CIA-types rigged the Florida voting machines, right, petro? And blew up the WTC, right, petro?
By the way, there's a CIA operative under your bed right now, petro, taking notes. The same dude who blew up that oil rig in the gulf.

I have set out a schedule for the film crew:
Do research on the US Embassy in Bangkok:
bangkok.usembassy.gov/
In the SEARCH box, digit "Chiang Mai"
There are many "hits" on this name/place.
Now, check "THE AKHA HERITAGE FOUNDATION":
www.akha.org/content/usconsulchiangmai/index.html
Bingo! You have the kids, consuls, places, drug dealers, sex maniacs, CIA agents.....all set in an exotic capital of and Asian city in SouthEast Asia.
No movie magnate would refuse a good script on this mega production of the glorious CIA in action....in the killing fields of subversive INSURGENTS.....all over Asia (and the Middle East).
THE CIA IS THE GOD OF AMERICA, IT IS OMNIPRESENT.

Armando,
From your Empire and lies link:
In June 1953, when the first United States intervention to crush the Islamic Revolution in defense of its own interests and those of its close ally the United Kingdom took place, which resulted in Mohammed Reza Pahlevi assuming power,
"One swallow does not make a summer" and likewise one historical slip up by el lider in retirement does not necessarily mean that Castro is going senile.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953_Iranian_coup_d%27%C3%A9tat
The government led by Mosaddegh, an elected one, was not Islamic revolutionary - just patriotic. The Islamic revolution did not come about until 1979-80 and probably never would have had Britian and the USA let well enough alone with Iran back in 1953.
Fidel should at least employ a proofreader?
