I have not yet discovered how to reply to a topic and so started a new one. In answer to Collingwood's question about financial markets: it would be interesting to see what would happen if one of the demographically-challenged European countries were to issue a perpetual gilt issue, or a 100 year bond.

One replies with the clockwise arrow button to say that, assuming 6% interest, 90% of the value is realized in the first 40 years of interest payments. Good enough that the bond will sell reasonably well...

Spengler,

I can see this reply to you, and my thread to which you replied, when I am logged on, but not until I log on. Also, each of my threads or postings says "Not Moderated." I note that there are only 3 hits on my posting to which you replied; meanwhile, your reply shows 51 hits. My prose may sometimes be soporific, but I usually get a better score than that! Finally, the only reply to you on this thread that I can see is mine, but I find it hard to believe that 51 other people would have read your posting without writing a single response. You are, after all, the life of this party. I bet you can see multiple responses from various individuals, right?

I suspect that all this may mean that everyone's postings except yours are invisible to everyone except you as moderator, and to the poster when he is logged on. Each of us is visible only to himself and to you, and is visible to himself only when he announces his presence to you by logging on.

You, however, cannot reply to others; you can only initiate conversations.

Great training for metaphysics, and even better for intelligence work! [:o)]

Divide by 2pi and you have the reduced Plank's constant. Or... were you *literally* talking about the forum here?

Not only that, you can only see the reply YOU posted, and not any of the others. So you can respond to a post (initiated by a non-moderator) but not read or respond to posts made by any other members. Posts and 'viewings' made to topics posted by non-moderators are not 'ticked'......

This is like the dadaist parlour game, 'The Exquisite Corpse', where a story or even a novel is written, one page at a time, by an 'author' that cannot see the page, or pages, written before it, and no notion of plotline or character development......

That seems to be the best use of this 'forum', in it's present state. I suggest we try it, and see what the 'finished' result will be when 'revealed'....

Then why is it that we can all see the replies to this thread? When I replied to Verc's thread it said that the my response would be posted after the moderator approved it. I can see my response but no one else can.

Huff...
